My kids always loved this book when they were little.
The story of the little engine has been told and retold many times. The underlying theme however is the same - a stranded train is unable to find an engine willing to take it on over difficult terrain to its destination. Only the little blue engine is willing to try, and while repeating the mantra "I think I can, I think I can" overcomes a seemingly impossible task.
“As it neared the top of the grade, which had so discouraged the larger engines, it went more slowly. However, it still kept saying, "I--think--I--can, I--think--I--can." It reached the top by drawing out bravery and then went on down the grade, congratulating itself by saying, "I thought I could, I thought I could."
My seemingly impossible task is to get a handle on my health, by that I mean lose weight and be healthier. I want to live long to enjoy my grandkids and not worry about my weight. I am trying to study and ask questions and learn about doing it in a way that is a lifestyle change not a fad diet. Last year I lost 30 pounds on a fad diet and gained almost all of it back.
Can you say frustrating!!!!!!
My husband says it will be really hard for a lady who loves to cook, who loves to entertain, who loves trying new recipes and cooking great food- so now my focus must change to great healthy food and better choices. In other words teaching an old dog new tricks.

I don’t way to stay stranded – I need to climb this hill and praise GOD on the other side when I’m saying …
I thought I could, I thought I could!

I always thought to lose weight the way I did,(counting calories) you had to eat rabbit food...not so! We have never eaten better in our lives!!

Just getting control of portions is a HUGE part of it!
I forgot to tell you to drink as much water as you can and stay away from trigger foods
at first...things that when you eat one you can't stop. Slowly you can try them again after you learn portion control.
We ate Lean Cuisines some to learn portions too...weight watcher desserts..fudge bars. ;-)
Baby steps..it will take a few months to figure it all out...but if it's for the rest of your life? What's a few months.
I haven't logged my food in the daily plate for 2 months...I only gained 2 lbs from Thanksgiving till today! I'll get rid of those extra two by next week!
There is hope that we can completely learn to eat less and exercise more automatically.

So many times I have lost weight just to gain it all back plus some! I just keep buying larger clothes and telling myself stories like "I was meant to be this size", "it runs in my family", "it's hard when I fast food almost every day" and "I just don't have the will power". All of which I'm sure is the lazy way out of doing better! I know you can, I know you can! Maybe I can learn how to do better with you.

I am planning to start Monday. We have guests coming for the week but I am going to start watching portions and walking daily. They live in Papua New Guinea so they walk EVERYWHERE. I know she will get out and walk with me. Then, when they leave I can really hit making better dishes that are lower in carbs and chocolate. One thing that I would love from you is together to make over the southern dishes we love and find good food that isn't bland. We can do it!!! I have been humiliated to see my photos this past year. I think I look cuter than that when I leave the house. Photos don't lie.
I am with you! Even though y'all always tell me whatever, I need to loose some weight. I have gained about 25 pounds since July and I can really tell physically and mentally.
Lorie. I am SOOOO not kidding. GO GET A BODY BUGG FROM APRIL ASAP!!! I love love love mine and it teaches you so much and keeps you WAY accountable. I was able to lose 9 lbs in the month of December just by doing what it told me to do. I've spent SO much money on diets, and weight watchers, and personal trainers. This thing, I swear to you, is better than all of them. And more cost effective long term. GET U ONE!
